Mother's Day Poems

Receiving a bouquet of flowers or having a nice night out is a nice way to celebrate mother’s day. Yet, gifts and cards are not the purpose of mother’s day. The meaning may get lost in a lot of fancy packaging, but the real point is to communicate to your mother that she is appreciated. What better way to do this than in mother’s day poems.

You might be thinking that giving your mother a poem is taking the easy road, but as long as your heart is all there it can be a very thoughtful gift. Creating mother’s day poems can actually provide a format for saying all of the things we can’t seem to get out in words.

Writing a mother’s day poem doesn’t have to be hard. In fact, it doesn’t even have to rhyme. Most professional poets have abandoned the familiar rhyming format. This frees the way for more control over your words and a more creative approach.

Beginning your mother’s day poems is probably going to be the hardest part. It becomes a lot easier when you do a little preparation. By this I mean simply doing a little free-writing. This is where you just start writing down anything that comes to mind. After you are finished you can look back at what you written and get an idea for what kind of direction you want to take in your poem.

Basically, it easier to write your mother’s day poems when you have an idea of what you are going to say. In fact, feel free to write the words down and organize them. Than you can read through and make changes necessary to create the right sound. It this step that will transform your words into poetry. Remember that it is the thought and the effort that count and not the end result.
